Ramelteon falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

First and most important: jequirity isn't really a supplement question so much as a safety one. Its seeds contain abrin, a poison closely related to ricin, so this plant should never be taken by mouth at all. Please skip it entirely, regardless of what else you're on.

That said, here's the interaction itself. Ramelteon (Rozerem) is processed by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies suggest jequirity can slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let ramelteon build up a bit, leading to stronger effects like next-morning grogginess, dizziness, or feeling unusually sleepy. But this is based only on test-tube data, the rating is minor and unlikely, so it's a weak signal. The real concern remains the toxicity. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything new.
