Exemestane falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Let me start with the most important thing: jequirity seeds are not a safe supplement at all. They contain abrin, a poison closely related to ricin, and even tiny amounts can be deadly. There is no reason to take it, and the real danger here is the toxin itself, not what it does to your Aromasin (exemestane).

That said, here's the interaction on paper. Your body partly clears exemestane using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies only, jequirity extract slowed that enzyme down. In theory, that could let exemestane build up a bit, which might mean more of its usual effects like joint aches, hot flashes, or fatigue. This is weak, test-tube evidence, rated minor and unlikely. Please don't use jequirity, and check with your pharmacist or oncologist with any questions.

Jequirity (Abrus precatorius) is a tropical plant whose bright red, black-tipped seeds contain abrin, one of the most toxic plant proteins known. Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.

About Exemestane

What Is Exemestane Used For?

Brand name: Aromasin

Exemestane (brand name Aromasin) is used in postmenopausal women with estrogen-receptor positive early breast cancer who have already taken tamoxifen for two to three years — it is then used to complete a total of five years of hormonal therapy. It is also used to treat advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women whose cancer continued to grow during or after tamoxifen therapy.

These uses apply to Aromasin and the generic exemestane tablets. This medication is not approved for breast cancer in premenopausal women.
