Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Adalimumab
Adalimumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Melatonin interacts with.
Melatonin can stimulate immune function. Theoretically, melatonin might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the idea behind this pairing. Humira (adalimumab) works by calming down an overactive immune system, which is how it eases the pain, swelling, and flares of conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn's disease. Melatonin, on the other hand, can gently nudge the immune system in the opposite direction by giving it a little boost. So in theory, melatonin could push back against what your Humira is trying to do.
I want to be honest about how soft this concern is. It's mostly theoretical, based on limited research, not strong real-world proof that melatonin makes Humira stop working. Still, if you rely on this medication to keep your disease quiet, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding melatonin, just so someone who knows your full picture can sign off.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Adalimumab page
“Adalimumab (Humira) works by dialing down an overactive immune system, which is what makes this list so uniform: all 53 supplements on file are flagged for one reason, they may stimulate immunity and could, in theory, blunt the drug's effect. None of the interactions is rated major (52 are moderate, one minor), so for most people this…”

About Melatonin
What is Melatonin?
- Trouble falling asleep (insomnia)
- Jet lag
- Delayed sleep phase syndrome
- Non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder
- Shift-work sleep problems
- Sleep problems in some children with conditions like autism or ADHD
Melatonin is a hormone your body makes naturally to help control your sleep-wake cycle, and the supplement form is widely used to help with sleep timing problems and jet lag. The evidence is strongest for certain circadian (body-clock) disorders and is more mixed for everyday insomnia. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially for children or during pregnancy.
