Theoretically, taking melatonin might increase the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Melatonin has sedative effects. Theoretically, concomitant use of melatonin with alcohol, benzodiazepines, or other sedative drugs might cause additive sedation.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with these two: melatonin gently nudges your brain toward sleep, and Temazepam (Restoril) does the same job in a much stronger way by slowing brain activity. They aren't competing for the same liver enzyme, so this isn't about one building up the other. Instead, both push in the same sleepy direction, so the calming effects can stack on top of each other.

What that could feel like is being extra drowsy, groggy or unsteady, especially the next morning, with possible dizziness or a higher fall risk if you get up at night. This concern is mostly theoretical, based on how each works rather than strong studies, so don't panic. Still, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

Temazepam also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, melatonin might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Laboratory research shows that certain lots of melatonin inhibit CYP3A4. Theoretically, combined administration of melatonin with certain drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 may reduce the metabolism of these drugs, resulting in increased serum levels. Until more is known, use melatonin cautiously in patients taking drugs metabolized by these enzymes.

Here's the situation with melatonin and your temazepam (Restoril). Some lab studies hint that certain batches of melatonin might slow down CYP3A4, one of the liver enzymes that helps clear temazepam from your body. If that happened, a bit more temazepam could linger, which in theory might make you feel extra drowsy, groggy, or unsteady, especially the next morning.

The good news: this is a theoretical concern based only on test-tube research, so it's rated minor. Temazepam is actually mostly broken down a different way, so a real-world problem is unlikely. Still, since both can make you sleepy, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and watch for next-day grogginess before driving.

Temazepam capsules — sold as Restoril and under the generic name Temazepam — are indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia, generally 7 to 10 days. They help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

This medication is intended for short periods only. If sleep trouble doesn't improve within 7 to 10 days, that may signal an underlying medical or psychiatric condition that needs its own evaluation.
