Why this applies to Galantamine

Galantamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group N,n-dmpea interacts with.

In vitro research shows that N,N-DMPEA strongly inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6). Theoretically, concomitant use with drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 might increase the risk for adverse effects from these drugs.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the gist for galantamine: your liver partly relies on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear it. Lab (test-tube) studies suggest N,N-DMPEA can strongly block that enzyme. If that played out in the body, galantamine could hang around longer and build up, which may push its usual side effects harder. Think more nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, slow heart rate, or stomach cramps.

The big caveat: this is only theory from lab work, not from real people, and N,N-DMPEA itself is poorly studied. So I wouldn't panic, but I also can't promise it's harmless. Since galantamine already tends to bother the gut and heart rate, please run this combo past your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Galantamine — available as extended-release capsules, tablets, and an oral solution — is used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease. All supported formulations share this indication.

It does not cure or slow the underlying disease, but it can help support cognitive function in people with early to moderate-stage Alzheimer's. Its benefits may lessen as the disease progresses and more brain cells are lost.
