Why this applies to Venlafaxine

Venlafaxine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group N,n-dmpea interacts with.

In vitro research shows that N,N-DMPEA strongly inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6). Theoretically, concomitant use with drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 might increase the risk for adverse effects from these drugs.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear venlafaxine (Effexor). In lab dish studies, N,N-DMPEA appears to block that enzyme. If that holds true in people, venlafaxine could clear more slowly and build up in your system, which means a stronger drug effect than you bargained for.

With venlafaxine, that could look like more nausea, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, a faster heartbeat, higher blood pressure, or in larger buildups, symptoms tied to too much serotonin. I want to be honest, though: this concern is theoretical and based only on test-tube data, not on real people. On top of that, N,N-DMPEA itself is poorly studied and a stimulant. Please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Venlafaxine is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) across all available formulations. Extended-release capsules (including Effexor XR) are also approved for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and panic disorder (PD).

Extended-release tablets are approved for major depressive disorder and social anxiety disorder. Immediate-release venlafaxine tablets are indicated for major depressive disorder only.
