Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ACE INHIBITORS (ACEIs) — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with ACEIs may increase the therapeutic and adverse effects of ACEIs.
Clinical research in healthy adults shows that taking a single dose of rooibos tea, 400 mL orally, inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme activity.

Here's the gist: your medication contains captopril, which lowers blood pressure by blocking an enzyme called ACE. Interestingly, a small study found that a single cup of rooibos tea (about 400 mL) also nudged that same enzyme downward a bit. So in theory, sipping rooibos alongside captopril could add to its effect, meaning your blood pressure might dip a little more than expected. Watch for things like dizziness, lightheadedness when standing up, or feeling unusually tired.

That said, this is a theoretical concern based on how the herb behaves, not strong proof from real-world use. An occasional mug of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you drink a lot of it or use concentrated extracts, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your readings.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
