Phenobarbital is a barbiturate, which is a strong central nervous system depressant. It already slows down brain activity to cause sedation and calm. The concern here is that shepherd's purse has been reported in some sources to have its own mild calming or sedating qualities. Putting the two together could, in theory, add up to more drowsiness than you expect.

If that happened, you might feel extra sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady on your feet, and your breathing could be more suppressed. I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical caution based on how these things work, not proven in solid human studies. It's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially since phenobarbital is already potent.
