Here's the idea behind this pairing. Umckaloabo (Pelargonium sidoides) seems to gently rev up the immune system in lab studies. Lenalidomide, on the other hand, works partly by changing how your immune system behaves while it fights conditions like multiple myeloma, MDS, or mantle cell lymphoma. So in theory, a supplement that stimulates immune activity could pull in the opposite direction and make your treatment work a little less smoothly.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is theoretical, based on test-tube research, not real patient outcomes. We don't have proof it actually weakens lenalidomide in people. Still, since this is serious cancer therapy, I wouldn't add Umckaloabo on your own. Please run it by your oncologist or pharmacist first so nothing undercuts a medication you're depending on.

Umckaloabo is a root extract from a South African geranium that is most studied for short-term relief of acute bronchitis and other respiratory infections. Some clinical research suggests it may help symptoms resolve a bit faster, but the quality of evidence is mixed and it is not a cure. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a chronic illness.

About Lenalidomide

What Is Lenalidomide Used For?

Brand name: Revlimid

Lenalidomide capsules (brand name Revlimid) are used to treat several blood cancers and related conditions in adults. These include multiple myeloma (MM) — taken in combination with dexamethasone, or as maintenance therapy after a stem cell transplant — and transfusion-dependent anemia caused by low- or intermediate-1-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) with a specific chromosome change called deletion 5q.

Lenalidomide capsules are also used for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) that has come back or stopped responding after at least two prior treatments (one of which must have included bortezomib), and for previously treated follicular lymphoma (FL) or marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) — both in combination with a rituximab product. It is not approved for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) outside of clinical trials.
