Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: beta-1,3-glucan, a type of soluble fiber derived from yeast cell walls. The tablet also includes inactive ingredients—calcium carbonate, cellulose, stearic acid, and magnesium stearate—which serve as fillers and binders to hold the tablet together.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Beta-glucans's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: immune support and macrophage modulation.
  • We looked for evidence on: Exercise-induced respiratory infections, Lower respiratory tract infections, Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI), Critical illness (trauma), Wound healing, Immune function — and 2 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Beta-glucans is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Lower respiratory tract infections (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Beta-glucans is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Exercise-induced respiratory infections, Wound healing, Critical illness (trauma).

Beta-glucan is rated Likely Effective for two conditions: helping manage dyslipidemia (abnormal blood fat levels) and reducing risk of coronary heart disease. The evidence supports its use for these cardiovascular concerns.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Beta-glucan from food sources is generally well tolerated by most people. However, concentrated supplements have less safety data than whole foods, so caution is advised when using higher doses.

Topical beta-glucan products have caused mild, self-limiting skin reactions and contact dermatitis in some users. In rare cases, very high oral doses (120 mg per kilogram of body weight daily, used in a pediatric cancer trial) triggered temporary liver enzyme elevations in one participant.

There isn't enough data on supplement doses during breastfeeding to know whether it's safe, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're nursing.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Beta-glucans.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: immunosuppressants / transplant drugs.
  • For scale: 293 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, double-check with your pharmacist if you take blood pressure medications (Moderate risk of pressure dropping too far) or drugs that suppress your immune system (Moderate risk of interference). No other interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.

Beta Glucan by Wonder Laboratories: Common Questions

Does Beta Glucan by Wonder Laboratories interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Beta Glucan has a known interaction with 293 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Beta Glucan contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does beta-glucan really help with cholesterol and heart health?
Yes. Beta-glucan is rated Likely Effective for managing abnormal blood fat levels and reducing coronary heart disease risk. The evidence supports its use for these cardiovascular goals.
What are the side effects?
Beta-glucan is generally well tolerated. Topical products have caused mild, self-limiting skin reactions in some users. Oral supplements at normal doses haven't shown major safety issues, though one very high-dose trial in children reported temporary liver enzyme changes in one participant.
Is it safe to take while breastfeeding?
There isn't enough research on supplement doses during breastfeeding to know either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you while nursing.
Can I take this if I have high blood pressure?
Beta-glucan may lower blood pressure on its own, so it could work too strongly if you're already on blood pressure medication. Check with your pharmacist before starting to make sure your drugs and this product won't combine to drop your pressure too far.
What exactly is beta-glucan?
Beta-glucan is a type of soluble fiber that comes from yeast cell walls. It's a natural compound that your body doesn't fully digest, so it passes through and may affect cholesterol and immune function.
Will this interfere with my immune-suppressing medication?
Possibly. Beta-glucan stimulates immune function, which could work against drugs designed to suppress your immune system. Talk with your pharmacist before taking it if you're on immunosuppressant therapy.
