Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Bronson Laboratories CoQ10 Complex contains 3 active ingredients: coenzyme Q10, marine lipid concentrate, and borage oil. Coenzyme Q10 is a compound your cells use for energy and protection from oxidative stress.
Marine lipid concentrate and borage oil are both fat-based supplements that contribute omega-type fatty acids and other lipid compounds. The softgel capsule also contains several inactive ingredients — gelatin, glycerin, beeswax, purified water, annatto extract, mixed tocopherols, and titanium dioxide — that serve as the capsule material and preservatives.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Coenzyme Q10 is considered likely effective for coenzyme Q10 deficiency specifically. It is possibly effective for fibromyalgia, migraine headache, congestive heart failure, and diabetic neuropathy.
For borage oil, the evidence rated in our data shows it is possibly ineffective for atopic dermatitis (eczema), and we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate it for attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, acute respiratory distress syndrome, or alcoholism. We hold no effectiveness ratings for marine lipid concentrate.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Coenzyme Q10 is generally well tolerated by most adults when used as directed. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — appetite suppression, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting — and these occur in less than 1% of users; dividing doses above 100 mg daily may help.
Headache, dizziness, insomnia, and rarely skin itching or allergic rash have also been reported. Borage seed oil that is certified free of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) is generally better tolerated, with common side effects being belching, bloating, diarrhea, and soft stools.
However, other parts of the borage plant — leaf, flower, seed — contain liver-toxic alkaloids that can cause serious hepatotoxicity and should be avoided. The safety data advises against borage during pregnancy because of possible liver-toxic alkaloids and theoretical risk to the uterus.
For breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable safety data for coenzyme Q10, so talk with your doctor before using it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take warfarin or other blood thinners (anticoagulants) — coenzyme Q10 may reduce their effectiveness. Also flag it if you're on chemotherapy drugs like alkylating agents, phenothiazines (antipsychotics), medications that induce CYP3A4, or blood pressure drugs.
Borage oil raises bleeding risk with anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
CoQ10 Complex may be worth considering if you have a documented coenzyme Q10 deficiency or are exploring options for heart health, migraine, or nerve pain — but the evidence for those last three is still developing. If you take warfarin, any blood thinner or antiplatelet drug, chemotherapy, seizure medications, or blood pressure medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.

CoQ10 Complex by Bronson Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Bronson Laboratories CoQ10 Complex has documented interactions with several medication types, primarily through its coenzyme Q10 and borage oil content.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulants) like warfarin — coenzyme Q10 may reduce warfarin's effectiveness by mimicking vitamin K, and four cases of decreased warfarin efficacy have been reported.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Coenzyme Q10 also interacts with chemotherapy drugs that rely on free radicals to work, such as alkylating agents (e.g., cyclophosphamide), and may theoretically reduce their activity. Additionally, borage oil raises the risk of bleeding if combined with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, and there's concern it might increase seizure risk when used with phenothiazines (antipsychotics).
Borage may also interact with CYP3A4-inducing medications — certain parts of the borage plant contain liver-toxic compounds that these drugs could activate. Coenzyme Q10 may also lower blood pressure additively if you're already on blood pressure medications, though the effect is minor and research is mixed.
We could not check Marine Lipid Concentrate for interactions — we hold no data for it. Altogether, these interactions span 417 individual medications.

For each ingredient in CoQ10 Complex with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Borage Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, borage seed oil may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In healthy individuals, borage seed oil supplementation does not seem to affect platelet aggregation. However, gamma-linolenic acid, a constituent of borage seed oil, seems to decrease platelet aggregation by 45% and increase the risk of bleeding by 40% in animal and clinical research.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Inducers
Theoretically, taking borage with drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase levels of pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) toxic metabolites.
Although borage seed oil contains little to no PAs, some borage plant parts, such as the leaf, flower, and seed, can contain hepatotoxic PAs. Hepatotoxic PAs are substrates of CYP3A4, which converts these chemicals into toxic metabolites. Tell patients to avoid borage preparations that are not certified and labeled as hepatotoxic PA-free.
Phenothiazines
Theoretically, taking borage sed oil with phenothiazines might increase the risk of seizures.
Borage seed oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). There is concern that taking supplements containing GLA might cause seizures, or lower the seizure threshold, when taken with phenothiazines. This is based on limited data from two reports published in the 1980s. In one report, three patients with schizophrenia who had received phenothiazines developed EEG changes suggestive of temporal lobe epilepsy after starting treatment with evening primrose, another source of GLA. However, none experienced an actual seizure. In the other report, two patients with schizophrenia who were stabilized on phenothiazines developed seizures when evening primrose 4 grams daily was added. One of these patients had a prior history of seizures. It is unclear whether evening primrose had any additive epileptogenic effects with the phenothiazines, but there is no evidence that taking GLA-containing supplements alone can cause seizures.
Co-Enzyme Q10
Alkylating Agents
Coenzyme Q10 has antioxidant effects. Theoretically, this may reduce the activity of chemotherapy drugs that generate free radicals.
Theoretically, antioxidants such as coenzyme Q10 might protect tumor cells from chemotherapeutic agents that work by inducing oxidative stress, such as alkylating agents (e.g., cyclophosphamide) and radiation therapy. The clinical importance of this interaction is unknown.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Coenzyme Q10 is chemically similar to menaquinone and might have vitamin K-like procoagulant effects, which could decrease the effects of warfarin.
Concomitant use of coenzyme Q10 and warfarin might reduce the anticoagulant effects of warfarin. Four cases of decreased warfarin efficacy thought to be due to coenzyme Q10 have been reported. However, there is some preliminary clinical research that suggests coenzyme Q10 might not significantly decrease the effects of warfarin in patients who have a stable INR.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, coenzyme Q10 might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical research shows that coenzyme Q10 can significantly lower blood pressure, although other studies have shown conflicting results.
