What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Formula 918 against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Formula 918 contains one active ingredient: chromium, supplied as trivalent chromium (a form your body can use). The product also includes inactive ingredients — cellulose, gelatin, silica, and magnesium stearate — which are fillers, binders, and capsule material.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for chromium's effects varies by condition. It's rated likely effective for chromium deficiency itself.
For type 2 diabetes, the evidence suggests it's possibly effective — some research shows it may help lower blood glucose, especially in people whose diabetes is not well controlled. For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, the evidence is rated possibly ineffective, meaning the data we hold doesn't show a clear benefit.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects from oral chromium are gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes.
Rare serious effects — kidney or liver damage, muscle breakdown, and low platelet counts — have been reported, usually at higher or long-term doses. For pregnancy and lactation: small amounts from a balanced diet or prenatal vitamin are generally considered acceptable, but extra supplement doses should be avoided unless your doctor specifically recommends it.
The safety data on higher supplement doses is limited.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antidiabetes drugs or insulin — chromium may increase the risk of low blood sugar. Also flag levothyroxine (thyroid medication), NSAIDs, and aspirin, as chromium interacts with all of these.
Your healthcare provider can advise on safe timing and dosing.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have type 2 diabetes or are chromium-deficient, this might be worth discussing with your doctor — the evidence is strongest there. If you take diabetes medications, insulin, levothyroxine, or regular NSAIDs or aspirin, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it, because the timing and dosing matter.
Talk it over with your own healthcare provider to see if it's right for you.

Formula 918 by DC Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Formula 918 by DC contains chromium, which interacts with several medication types.
The most serious interaction is with antidiabetes drugs and insulin — chromium may lower blood sugar levels the same way these medications do, which increases the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also interacts with levothyroxine (a thyroid hormone replacement), moderately reducing how much of it your body absorbs — in one study, it lowered levothyroxine levels by 17%. If you take levothyroxine, you'll want to separate the timing of this supplement and your medication.
Minor interactions exist with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and naproxen, and with aspirin — these may increase how much chromium your body absorbs and retains. Altogether, these interactions span 178 individual medications.
If you take any prescription medication, use the search tool on this page to check your exact drugs before starting this supplement.

Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
