HelloPharmacist Scorecard of L-Glutamine 500 mg by Bronson
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This is a single-ingredient supplement: L-glutamine, an amino acid your body makes naturally and uses for muscle, immune, and gut health. Each tablet contains 500 mg.
The inactive ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, and dicalcium phosphate—the binders and fillers that hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence is clearest for sickle cell disease, where L-glutamine is rated effective. For HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma, the evidence is possibly effective—meaning some studies show promise, but we don't have enough data to be certain.
Talk with your doctor about whether this supplement makes sense for your particular situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effects reported are digestive—belching, bloating, flatulence, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and stomach pain.
Headache and musculoskeletal pain have also been reported. A few rare cases of dizziness, mania, and hypomania have shown up in people taking higher doses or those with bipolar disorder.
If you have kidney or liver disease, use this supplement only under your doctor's supervision. Safety data in pregnancy is limited, but what exists suggests it's likely safe—talk with your doctor if you're pregnant or planning to be.
Breastfeeding safety data is sparse; avoid supplement doses while breastfeeding unless your clinician advises otherwise.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take anticonvulsants (seizure medications), talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting L-glutamine. Glutamine becomes glutamate in your body, which might theoretically interfere with how these drugs work, though this hasn't been confirmed in humans yet.
They may want to monitor your seizure control.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-glutamine is a straightforward supplement for people dealing with sickle cell disease or recovering from surgery or critical illness, though the evidence is strongest for sickle cell. If you take seizure medication, check with your doctor first.
For anyone with kidney or liver problems, medical supervision is important. Start this conversation with your own doctor or pharmacist before you begin.

L-Glutamine 500 mg by Bronson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Bronson's L-Glutamine 500 mg has one documented interaction category: anticonvulsants (seizure medications).
The concern is theoretical rather than proven in humans—glutamine is broken down in your body into glutamate, an excitatory brain chemical that might work against how anticonvulsants calm overactive nerve signals. No human cases of this interaction have been reported yet, but it's worth knowing about.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
If you take seizure medication, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this supplement. They can watch for any changes in how well your seizure control is working.
Altogether, these interactions span 50 individual medications.
For all other medications, no interactions are documented in our data. That doesn't guarantee none exist—it means the ingredients we could check haven't shown documented problems with them.
