Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

ALLMAX ESSENTIALS Glutamine is a single-ingredient powder containing L-glutamine, an amino acid your body naturally produces. It has no inactive ingredients listed.

By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: muscle recovery and amino acid supplementation.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Exercise-induced muscle damage, Postoperative recovery, Wound healing, Critical illness (trauma), Burns — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Effective" for HIV/AIDS-related wasting (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Critical illness (trauma), Postoperative recovery.
  • Also on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance, Burns.

The evidence shows glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease. It's rated possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma.

For other uses, we don't hold effectiveness data on file.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Glutamine is generally well tolerated by healthy adults. The most common side effects from oral glutamine are digestive — belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, gas, nausea, and vomiting — along with headache and muscle pain.

A handful of people have reported dizziness or, rarely, mood changes (mania or hypomania) at high doses, though symptoms improved when the dose was lowered. If you have kidney or liver disease, use it only under medical supervision.

Safety data in pregnancy is rated likely safe, but for breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable data — talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using a supplement dose while nursing.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Glutamine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: seizure medications.
  • For scale: 50 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs), check your specific medication with the tool on this page — glutamine theoretically could reduce their effect, though this hasn't been seen in humans yet.

Formula

ALLMAX Glutamine uses Glutamine crystals made from a natural fermentation process. This state-of-the-art process creates a unique, purified and isolated Glutamine ideal for supplementation. Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid found in muscle tissue. During times of stress, including exercise and athletic events, Glutamine is one of the first amino acids to be oxidized. Supplementation with Glutamine may help to support muscle Glutamine levels, prevent muscle tissue breakdown and increase recovery.

Glutamine by ALLMAX ESSENTIALS: Common Questions

Does Glutamine by ALLMAX ESSENTIALS interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Glutamine has a known interaction with 50 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Glutamine contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is L-glutamine and what does it do?
L-glutamine is an amino acid your body makes naturally. It's used as a supplement to support recovery after surgery or critical illness, and it's proven effective for sickle cell disease. Your body breaks it down into glutamate and ammonia, both of which have roles in your metabolism and nervous system.
What are the side effects of glutamine powder?
Most side effects are digestive: bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, or stomach pain. You might also get a headache or muscle soreness. At very high doses, a few people have reported dizziness or mood changes, but those improved when the dose was lowered. These effects are rare in everyday use.
Is glutamine safe if I have kidney or liver disease?
No — if you have kidney or liver disease, you should only use glutamine under a doctor's supervision. Talk to your healthcare provider before starting it.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Pregnancy is rated likely safe. For breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data — discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist before using a supplement dose, as they can weigh your individual situation.
Does glutamine really work for muscle recovery?
The evidence supports it for postoperative recovery and critical illness — it's rated possibly effective for both. For general muscle recovery in healthy athletes, we don't hold effectiveness data.
