Propolis is generally well tolerated in the short term, though allergic reactions are possible — especially if you're sensitive to bee products. The most common side effect when taken orally is headache; in one clinical trial, about 7% of people taking 250 mg twice daily for 4 months reported mild headache.

Topically, it can cause contact cheilitis (lip inflammation) or contact dermatitis (skin irritation) in sensitive individuals. Rare but serious allergic reactions can occur orally.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, propolis might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro research shows that propolis water extract and the propolis constituent, caffeic acid phenethyl ester, can inhibit platelet aggregation. Additionally, evidence from an animal model shows that taking propolis in addition to warfarin decreases INR, suggesting that propolis can decrease the effectiveness of warfarin.
