ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina
Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Adrafinil interacts with.
Adrafinil is a precursor to the stimulant prescription drug modafinil. Modafinil has been shown to increase diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Retrospective analyses show that patients taking modafinil had a small but increased rate of requiring new antihypertensive drugs or increased use of antihypertensive drugs when compared with placebo.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Rauzide is a combination blood pressure medicine. It pairs bendroflumethiazide, a water pill that helps your body shed extra salt and fluid, with rauwolfia serpentina, which calms nerve signals to relax your blood vessels. Together they work to bring your numbers down.
Here's the catch with adrafinil: your liver turns it into modafinil, a stimulant, and stimulants tend to nudge blood pressure up. So the concern is that adrafinil could push against your Rauzide and make it work a little less well, meaning your pressure isn't controlled as nicely as it should be. To be clear, this is a theoretical worry based on how these drugs behave, not something proven for this exact combo, and any effect is likely small. Still, since adrafinil is unregulated and hard on the liver, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing the two.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina page
“Rauzide combines two blood-pressure medicines, the thiazide diuretic bendroflumethiazide and rauwolfia serpentina, so anything that also lowers pressure, pulls off fluid, or shifts electrolytes lands on already sensitive ground. This page warrants real caution.”
