Here's the thinking on combining adrafinil with your NuvaRing (etonogestrel and ethinyl estradiol). Once your liver turns adrafinil into modafinil, that modafinil can gently speed up certain liver enzymes, including one called CYP1A2. In theory, faster enzyme activity could lower the levels of the hormones in your ring, which might make it a little less reliable at preventing pregnancy and could lead to spotting or breakthrough bleeding.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It's theoretical, based only on lab studies, not real-world cases. Still, because an unplanned pregnancy is a big deal, I'd play it safe. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist, and ask whether a backup method like condoms makes sense while you're using adrafinil.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with your NuvaRing (etonogestrel and ethinyl estradiol) and adrafinil. The hormones in your ring gently slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Adrafinil leans on that same enzyme to be cleared from your body. So in theory, your birth control could let adrafinil (and the modafinil it turns into) build up a bit more, which might mean stronger stimulant effects like jitteriness, trouble sleeping, a faster heartbeat, or headaches.

Here's the gist for your NuvaRing, which slowly releases two hormones, etonogestrel and ethinyl estradiol. Both hormones are partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4.
