Here's the short version on your birth control pill (the ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel combo). Lab studies in test tubes suggest ashwagandha might speed up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which helps process certain medicines. In theory, that could lower the amount of hormone in your system a little. Since this pill works by keeping hormone levels steady to prevent pregnancy, anything that nudges those levels down is worth being aware of.

That said, this is very weak evidence. It comes only from cell research, not from real people, and it's rated a minor, theoretical concern. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but because reliable contraception matters, mention the ashwagandha to your pharmacist or doctor so they can weigh in on your situation.

Your birth control pill combines two hormones, ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel, and your body clears them partly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, ashwagandha appeared to speed that enzyme up. In theory, a faster enzyme could break down the hormones a little quicker and slightly lower their levels.

If that happened, the worry would be reduced contraceptive protection or some breakthrough spotting. I want to be honest with you though: this is based only on test-tube research, not real people, and it is rated a minor, possible interaction. It is far from proven. Because an unplanned pregnancy is a big deal, it is worth running this by your pharmacist or doctor before starting ashwagandha.
