These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Bacopa interacts with whole categories of medication. Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Phenylpropanolamine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Bacopa in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Phenylpropanolamine
Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Phenylpropanolamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP3A4 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and competitively inhibit CYP3A4, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination product mixes an antihistamine (chlorpheniramine) with two decongestants (phenylephrine and phenylpropanolamine) to dry up a runny nose and clear congestion. The concern here is that bacopa might slow down the CYP3A4 enzyme, which helps break some of these ingredients down. If that happens, levels could drift up a bit, and you might notice more of the usual effects, like drowsiness or dry mouth from the antihistamine, or a faster heartbeat, jitteriness, or a rise in blood pressure from the decongestants.
I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical worry based on lab studies, and the research even disagrees with itself. For most people it likely won't cause trouble. Still, if you take bacopa regularly, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
2 of 2Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Phenylpropanolamine also falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS.
Bacopa seems to inhibit acetylcholinesterase and might increase acetylcholine levels, which could counteract the effects of anticholinergic drugs. Similarly, anticholinergic drugs might counteract the cholinergic effects of bacopa.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with this combo product. The chlorpheniramine piece is an antihistamine that works partly by blocking acetylcholine, one of your brain's chemical messengers. Bacopa seems to do the opposite in lab studies, it may raise acetylcholine levels. So in theory the two could tug against each other, and each might end up working a little less well. In practice that could mean your allergy or cold symptoms (runny nose, sneezing) aren't controlled quite as well, while bacopa's memory effect might also be blunted.
I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based on how these things work on paper, not on real patient reports. For most people it's not a big deal, but if you take bacopa daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how well each is doing its job.
