These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Bacopa interacts with whole categories of medication. Chlorpheniramine Tannate, Phenylephrine Tannate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Bacopa in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine Tannate, Phenylephrine Tannate
Chlorpheniramine Tannate, Phenylephrine Tannate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP3A4 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and competitively inhibit CYP3A4, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of it. This combo medicine pairs chlorpheniramine (an older antihistamine) with phenylephrine (a decongestant), and your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear them. In lab dishes, bacopa might slow that enzyme down a little, which could let these drugs hang around longer than usual. Neither one is a prodrug, so more drug staying in your system means stronger effects.
In plain terms, you might notice extra drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, or a faster, more pounding heartbeat from the phenylephrine. That said, this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube studies, and even that data disagrees with itself. For most people it likely won't be a big deal, but if you feel unusually sleepy or jittery, check with your pharmacist or doctor.

ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
2 of 2Chlorpheniramine Tannate, Phenylephrine Tannate also falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS.
Bacopa seems to inhibit acetylcholinesterase and might increase acetylcholine levels, which could counteract the effects of anticholinergic drugs. Similarly, anticholinergic drugs might counteract the cholinergic effects of bacopa.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. The chlorpheniramine part of Ricobid is an antihistamine that works partly by blocking acetylcholine, a chemical messenger in your body. Bacopa may push acetylcholine levels up. So in theory, the two could work against each other, meaning your allergy and congestion relief might feel a little weaker, and the herb's memory benefits might be dulled too.
I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical, based on how each works on paper, not on real-world reports of problems. For most people it's unlikely to cause anything dramatic. If you take both regularly and notice your symptoms aren't as well controlled, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
