Modafinil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP3A4 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and competitively inhibit CYP3A4, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Here's the basic idea with bacopa and modafinil. Your body partly uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear modafinil out. In lab dish studies, bacopa has shown it might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, modafinil could hang around a little longer and build up, which might mean stronger effects like trouble sleeping, headache, a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, or nausea.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical. The evidence comes only from test-tube studies, and even those disagree with each other. Many of us would not expect a big problem here. Still, if you take both regularly and notice you feel more wired or your sleep gets worse, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can take a look.

Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. Some small studies suggest it may modestly help memory when taken regularly for several weeks, but the evidence is limited and quality varies. What Is Modafinil Used For?

Brand names: Provigil, Sparlon, Alertec

Modafinil (also sold as Provigil) is used to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleepiness due to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD).

In OSA, modafinil treats the sleepiness — not the underlying airway obstruction itself. It is used alongside standard treatments such as CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep), not as a replacement for them. If CPAP is appropriate for you, your doctor will want you to use it consistently even while taking modafinil.
