Why this applies to Benzthiazide

Benzthiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension. Animal research shows that breadfruit leaf extract can decrease heart rate and weaken the force of heart muscle contractions, which may lower blood pressure.
Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDIURIL), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Benzthiazide (Exna) is a thiazide-type water pill that lowers blood pressure by helping your body get rid of extra salt and fluid. The concern here is simple math: breadfruit leaf products may nudge your blood pressure down a little on their own, so stacking them on top of your blood pressure medicine could lower it more than you want.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or shaky, especially when you stand up quickly. I'll be honest with you though, this warning is theoretical and comes mainly from animal studies, not solid human research. Eating breadfruit as food is unlikely to be a problem. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger unknown, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using them.
