Hydrocodone/Chlorpheniramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Cajeput Oil interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that cajeput leaf extract can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) by approximately 30%. Theoretically, cajeput oil may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the wrinkle with Tussionex: the hydrocodone part is actually a prodrug. Your body uses the liver enzyme CYP2D6 to turn some of it into hydromorphone, which adds to the pain-relieving and cough-quieting punch. Cajeput oil, in lab studies only, seems to slow that same enzyme by about 30%. So in theory it could blunt that conversion, meaning a bit less of that effect. At the same time, the parent drug may linger, so the picture isn't clean cut.

Honestly, this is weak, test-tube evidence, not something proven in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, hydrocodone is an opioid, so watch for unusual drowsiness, slowed breathing, or extra sedation (the chlorpheniramine adds to that). Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.
