Fluphenazine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Cajeput Oil interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that cajeput leaf extract can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) by approximately 30%. Theoretically, cajeput oil may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the gist for fluphenazine: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break it down and clear it out. Lab-dish studies hint that cajeput leaf extract can slow that same enzyme by roughly 30%. If that happens in real life, fluphenazine could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure, or stiff, restless, or shaky movements (the kind antipsychotics are known for).

That said, this is theoretical and based only on test-tube work, not on people, so I don't want to scare you. Don't change anything on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a quick heads-up before using cajeput oil so they can keep an eye on how you're feeling.

What Is Fluphenazine Used For?

Brand names: Prolixin, Permitil, Fluphenazine

Fluphenazine hydrochloride tablets and oral solution are indicated for the management of psychotic disorders. Fluphenazine Hydrochloride Injection is also used for psychotic disorders and can bridge patients to oral therapy.

Fluphenazine Decanoate Injection is a long-acting form specifically intended for patients who need extended antipsychotic treatment — for example, those with chronic schizophrenia who benefit from a single injection that can last up to four weeks or longer. It is not approved for behavioral problems related to intellectual disability, and it is not approved for dementia-related psychosis in elderly patients.
