Metformin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Cajeput Oil interacts with.

Animal studies suggest that cajeput oil might have hypoglycemic effects. Theoretically, taking cajeput oil with antidiabetes drugs could increase the risk for additive hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, and others.

Here's the gist: in animal studies, cajeput oil seemed to nudge blood sugar a little lower on its own. Since metformin already works to bring your glucose down, the worry is that the two together might lower it more than expected. That's an additive effect, not a change in how metformin is broken down.

I want to keep this in perspective, though. This is theoretical, based only on lab and animal data, not real human cases. Metformin by itself rarely causes serious lows. Still, if you use concentrated cajeput oil and notice shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or confusion, check your sugar and treat a low. Keep an eye on your numbers, and run any new supplement past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Metformin is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is always used together with diet and exercise, not instead of them.

Metformin hydrochloride tablets and oral solution are approved for adults and children 10 years and older. Metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets — including brands such as Fortamet, Glumetza, and Metformin Hydrochloride Extended Release — are approved for adults only.
