Trazodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Cajeput Oil interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that cajeput leaf extract can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) by approximately 30%. Theoretically, cajeput oil may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the gist for trazodone and cajeput oil. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear trazodone. In a lab dish, a cajeput leaf extract slowed that enzyme down by roughly 30%. If the same thing happened in people, trazodone could clear a little more slowly and build up. Trazodone is not a prodrug, so higher levels would simply mean a stronger effect, think extra drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or feeling lightheaded when you stand up.

The important part: this is only test-tube evidence, not something proven in real patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, swallowing essential oils isn't safe anyway. If you're using cajeput oil in any concentrated form, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
