Hydrocodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Cajeput Oil interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that cajeput leaf extract can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) by approximately 30%. Theoretically, cajeput oil may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's a wrinkle worth knowing about hydrocodone. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to turn hydrocodone into hydromorphone, a more potent form that does a lot of the actual pain relieving. Lab research hints that cajeput oil may slow CYP2D6 by roughly 30 percent. If that happened in a person, you'd expect less of that active conversion, which could mean weaker pain control rather than more.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's only test-tube and animal data, so it may not play out in real life. Inhaling or dabbing diluted cajeput oil on skin likely matters far less than swallowing concentrated amounts (which you should never do). If your pain control changes, loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adjusting anything.
