Cajeput Oil and Lanthanum Carbonate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Lanthanum Carbonate and Cajeput Oil in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Lanthanum Carbonate

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Lanthanum Carbonate is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Cajeput Oil has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and cytochrome p450 2d6 (cyp2d6) substrates (moderate) — and none of Lanthanum Carbonate’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Lanthanum Carbonate’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Cajeput Oil. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Lanthanum Carbonate’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • A bowel blockage Worth acting on
  • Stomach upset
  • Constipation
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Lanthanum Carbonate. Read the label on DailyMed › Cajeput Oil’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Cajeput Oil side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Cajeput Oil has no side effects.

How to take them

Some Lanthanum Carbonate Products Have a Food Rule — Cajeput Oil Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Lanthanum Carbonate says to take it with food. If you take Cajeput Oil on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Lanthanum Carbonate with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Lanthanum Carbonate products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

Do not store FOSRENOL Oral Powder for future use once mixed with food.

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Lanthanum Carbonate — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. Read the label on DailyMed ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

About Cajeput Oil

What is Cajeput Oil?

Cajeput Oil
  • Muscle and joint aches
  • Cough and congestion
  • Minor skin irritation
  • Insect repellent
  • Aromatherapy

Cajeput oil is an aromatic essential oil traditionally used for aches, congestion, and minor skin complaints, but solid human evidence for these uses is limited. Like other essential oils, it should never be swallowed and should be diluted before applying to skin; consult a pharmacist or doctor before use, especially in children, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Melaleuca cajuputi · Myrtaceae · Essential oil distilled from the leaves and twigs · Essential oil, diluted topical rubs, inhalants/balms, aromatherapy blends

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Cajeput Oil is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Cajeput Oil record says about it on its own.

Cajeput Oil: dosing

There is no official, standardized dose for cajeput oil, and no proven safe amount for taking it internally. For topical or aromatherapy use, the general practice is to dilute a small amount of the essential oil in a carrier oil before applying to the skin.Because products differ in strength, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them.

About Lanthanum

What Is Lanthanum Used For?

Brand name: Fosrenol

Lanthanum carbonate — available as lanthanum carbonate chewable tablets and as Fosrenol in both chewable tablet and oral powder forms — is used to lower elevated serum phosphate (too much phosphate in the blood) in people with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), the most advanced stage of chronic kidney disease.

Managing high phosphate in ESRD typically involves eating less phosphate-rich food, removing phosphate through dialysis, and using a phosphate binder like lanthanum carbonate to reduce how much phosphate is absorbed from meals.
