Here's the thing to know about pairing these two. Hydroflumethiazide (Saluron) is a thiazide-type water pill, and one of its known quirks is that it can lower your potassium over time. Cascara sagrada, as a stimulant laxative, can do the very same thing by pulling potassium out through your stool. Stack them together and you may push potassium lower than either would on its own.

Low potassium can leave you feeling weak, tired, crampy, or give you an irregular heartbeat. I'll be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical and tied to long-term cascara use, not an occasional dose. Still, if you take Saluron regularly, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using cascara, and ask whether your potassium should be watched.
