Methazolamide falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyllin interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyllin with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. Orally, chlorophyll has also been associated with the development of pseudoporphyria in multiple case reports.

Here's the thing with this combo: methazolamide (Neptazane) can already make some people more sensitive to sunlight, meaning your skin may burn or react more easily than usual. Chlorophyllin has also been linked to photosensitivity in lab reports and a few cases. So when you put the two together, the concern is simply that those sun-sensitive effects could add up and stack on top of each other.

To be clear, this is mostly theoretical, not proven, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Just be smart in the sun, use sunscreen, wear a hat, and watch for unusual rashes or easy burning. If you notice anything odd, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Methazolamide Used For?

Brand name: Neptazane

Methazolamide tablets are used to treat eye conditions where lowering intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) is expected to help. These include chronic open-angle glaucoma and secondary glaucoma.

Methazolamide tablets are also used before surgery in acute angle-closure glaucoma, when reducing eye pressure ahead of the procedure is needed. Note that long-term use in angle-closure glaucoma is not appropriate.
