PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Phenazopyridine, Sulfisoxazole
Phenazopyridine, Sulfisoxazole falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyllin interacts with.
Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. Orally, chlorophyll has also been associated with the development of pseudoporphyria in multiple case reports.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: Azo-Gantrisin combines phenazopyridine (a urinary pain reliever) with sulfisoxazole (a sulfa antibiotic). The sulfa part is a well-known photosensitizer, meaning it can make your skin react more strongly to sunlight and burn more easily. Chlorophyllin may also cause a bit of sun sensitivity on its own, so taking both could add up and leave your skin extra prone to burning or rashes.
This is mostly a theoretical concern based on limited reports, so don't panic. Just be smart about sun exposure: wear sunscreen, cover up, and limit time in strong sunlight while on this combination. If you notice unusual redness, blistering, or a rash, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before continuing.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Phenazopyridine, Sulfisoxazole page
“Azo-Gantrisin pairs sulfisoxazole, a sulfa antibiotic, with phenazopyridine to ease urinary pain, and I'd want anyone taking it to pause before adding supplements. Two of the 68 ingredients on file rate major, and both can undercut the treatment itself: PABA feeds bacteria the raw material the sulfa drug is built to block, and activate…”
