Sulfadiazine falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyllin interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyllin with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. Orally, chlorophyll has also been associated with the development of pseudoporphyria in multiple case reports.

Here's the thing to know if you're pairing chlorophyllin with sulfadiazine: this isn't about your liver breaking down the drug or one speeding up the other. It's about your skin and the sun. Sulfa antibiotics like sulfadiazine are well known for making your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you can burn faster or break out in a rash. Chlorophyllin has also been linked to sun sensitivity, so taking both together could add up and make that reaction more likely.

This is mostly a theoretical, additive concern, not a guarantee it will happen. To be safe, use sunscreen, cover up, and limit strong sun while on sulfadiazine. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Chlorophyllin is a water-soluble, semi-synthetic form of chlorophyll most often used to help control body and fecal odor and to support wound healing. The best evidence is for its use as a deodorizing agent, while many popular claims like detoxification and digestive benefits are not well proven. It is generally considered safe for short-term use, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting it, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

About Sulfadiazine

What Is Sulfadiazine Used For?

Brand name: Sulfadiazine

Sulfadiazine tablets are used to treat several types of bacterial and parasitic infections. These include urinary tract infections (such as kidney and bladder infections caused by susceptible bacteria), toxoplasmosis encephalitis (a brain infection caused by a parasite), chancroid, trachoma, inclusion conjunctivitis, nocardiosis, meningococcal meningitis, acute otitis media (middle ear infection) due to H. influenzae, and malaria caused by chloroquine-resistant strains — though the last two are used alongside other medicines.

Sulfadiazine tablets are also used to help prevent meningococcal meningitis in close contacts when the bacteria are known to be susceptible, and to prevent recurrences of rheumatic fever as an alternative to penicillin. For urinary tract infections, it should only be used after more soluble sulfonamide options have not worked.
