Nimodipine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw might inhibit CYP3A4, although this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for nimodipine. Your body clears this medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test tube studies, devil's claw appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that were to happen in real life, nimodipine could build up in your blood more than expected.

Since nimodipine relaxes blood vessels, higher levels could mean a bigger drop in blood pressure, leaving you dizzy, lightheaded, flushed, or with a headache. That said, this concern comes only from lab work, not from people, so it's theoretical at this point. Still, nimodipine is used in a serious setting, so please run any devil's claw use by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Nimodipine Used For?

Nimodipine — available as capsules and oral solution — is used to improve neurological outcomes after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a type of bleeding that occurs around the brain when an intracranial berry aneurysm ruptures. It works to reduce the incidence and severity of ischemic deficits (areas of the brain damaged by reduced blood flow) that can follow this kind of bleed.

This use applies across nimodipine capsules, nimodipine oral solution, and Nymalize oral solution. It is indicated for adult patients regardless of how severe their neurological condition is at the time treatment begins.
