Dhea + Effient
Effient brand name: Prasugrel.
Effient falls into 2 drug categories that Dhea can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, DHEA might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Dhea interacts with whole categories of medication. Effient falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Dhea in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Effient
Effient falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Dhea interacts with.
Some preliminary evidence shows that DHEA may inhibit CYP3A4; however, the clinical significance of this potential interaction is not known.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing worth knowing about Effient (prasugrel): it's a prodrug, meaning your body has to activate it before it can do its job of keeping platelets from clumping. CYP3A4 is one of the enzymes involved in turning it into its active form. There's some early, mostly anecdotal hints that DHEA might slow CYP3A4 down a little.
If that happened, it could theoretically nudge how much active drug you make, but honestly, the real-world effect here is unknown and the evidence is thin. Since Effient is all about preventing heart attacks and strokes after a stent, you don't want any wild card affecting it. I'd just run the DHEA past your pharmacist or cardiologist before adding it. Easy to check, better to ask.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
2 of 2Effient also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.
Human and laboratory research show that DHEA and DHEA-S can inhibit platelet aggregation.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with Effient (prasugrel): its whole job is to keep your platelets from clumping together so you don't form a dangerous clot after a heart attack or a stent. The catch is that this same effect raises your bleeding risk, which is why you're already taking it carefully alongside aspirin.
Some lab and early human research suggests DHEA can also make platelets less sticky. So in theory, stacking DHEA on top of Effient could nudge your bleeding risk a little higher, meaning easier bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that takes longer to stop. I'll be honest, this is mostly theoretical and not strongly proven, so I don't want you to panic. Just don't add DHEA on your own. Check with your pharmacist or doctor first, since you're already on two blood thinners.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Effient page
“Effient (prasugrel) keeps platelets from forming clots, usually after a stent or a heart attack, and I would not pair supplements with it casually. Roughly 200 ingredients on this list can thin the blood further and raise bleeding risk, including two of the five rated major.”

About Dhea
What is Dhea?
- Anti-aging and low DHEA levels
- Mood and depression
- Vaginal dryness and sexual health
- Fertility support
- Muscle mass and athletic performance
- Adrenal insufficiency
DHEA is a natural hormone that the body makes and that declines with age, and it is sold as a supplement claiming many benefits. The evidence is mixed and limited for most uses, and because it acts as a hormone it can cause real side effects. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a hormone-sensitive condition.
About Prasugrel
What Is Prasugrel Used For?
Brand name: Prasugrel
Prasugrel tablets (brand names Effient and Prasugrel) are used to lower the risk of dangerous blood clots — including clots that can block a stent — in people with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which includes unstable angina (chest pain at rest) and heart attacks (both NSTEMI and STEMI types). It is used specifically in patients who are being treated with a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), in which a catheter is used to open a blocked coronary artery, often with a stent.
Effient has been shown to reduce the combined rate of cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack, or nonfatal stroke compared to clopidogrel — with the benefit driven mainly by fewer heart attacks.
