SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Amoxapine
Amoxapine falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Fermented Wheat Germ Extract interacts with.
Animal research shows that fermented wheat germ can increase levels of serotonin in the brain.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea: amoxapine already raises serotonin and related brain chemicals to help lift your mood. Animal studies hint that fermented wheat germ extract may also nudge serotonin levels up. Stacking the two could, in theory, push serotonin a bit higher than intended.
If that happened, you might notice things like jitteriness, sweating, a faster heartbeat, restlessness, tremor, or stomach upset. I want to be honest, though: this concern comes only from lab and animal research, not from people, so it's far from proven. With amoxapine specifically, your bigger day-to-day cautions are usually its own side effects (drowsiness, dry mouth, blood pressure changes). Still, since you're managing both cancer-related care and depression, please run this past your oncologist or pharmacist before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Amoxapine page
“Amoxapine (Asendin) is an older tricyclic antidepressant, and its supplement list deserves real care. Three of the 68 ingredients on file are rated major: activated charcoal can soak up the drug before your body gets it, lithium raises the risk of serotonin syndrome (a dangerous serotonin overload), and scopolia piles onto amoxapine's…”

About Fermented Wheat Germ Extract
What is Fermented Wheat Germ Extract?
- Cancer supportive care (as a complementary product)
- Immune support
- General wellness during cancer treatment
- Antioxidant support
- Fatigue during illness
Fermented wheat germ extract is a supplement made by fermenting wheat germ with yeast, and it is most often marketed for people going through cancer treatment. While some early research and a few small studies are interesting, the overall evidence is limited and far from conclusive, so it should never replace standard medical care. Talk with your oncologist or pharmacist before using it, since it is a supplement and not an approved treatment.
