Theoretically, fever bark might alter the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Yohimbine, a constituent of fever bark, is an alpha-2 adrenoceptor antagonist and has been reported to increase blood pressure in clinical research. Conversely, reserpine can reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of fever bark and antihypertensive drugs can interfere with blood pressure control.

Timolide is a combo pill that pairs a water pill (hydrochlorothiazide) with a beta blocker (timolol) to lower your blood pressure. Here's the catch with fever bark: it contains a mix of plant alkaloids that tug your blood pressure in opposite directions. The yohimbine-like part can actually raise blood pressure, while the reserpine-like part can lower it. That means it could work against your medicine or stack on top of it, making your readings hard to predict.

This is a theoretical concern based on how these chemicals behave, not solid human studies, so don't panic. Still, fever bark is potent and poorly studied. If you're on Timolide, please skip fever bark unless your doctor or pharmacist okays it, and check your blood pressure if you do.

In vitro research suggests that yohimbine, a constituent of fever bark, inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity. The effects of fever bark itself are unclear.

Timolide is a combo pill: hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill) plus timolol (a beta-blocker). The piece that matters here is timolol, which your body partly clears using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies hint that yohimbine, one of the alkaloids in fever bark, can slow that enzyme down. If that happens, timolol could build up a bit and act stronger than expected.

In real terms, that might mean a slower heart rate, more dizziness or fatigue, or blood pressure dropping lower than you want. I'll be honest, this is only a theory based on test-tube work, not human studies, so the real risk is unclear. Still, fever bark carries its own heart and blood pressure effects, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Fever bark is the bark of the Australian tree Alstonia constricta, used in traditional medicine for fever, diarrhea, and infections. There is very little reliable human research to support these uses, and the bark contains potent alkaloids that may cause serious side effects. It is best avoided unless used under direct medical supervision.
