Fever Bark + Methamphetamine
Methamphetamine brand name: Desoxyn.
Methamphetamine falls into 2 drug categories that Fever Bark can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, fever bark might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Fever Bark interacts with whole categories of medication. Methamphetamine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Fever Bark in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Methamphetamine
Methamphetamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Fever Bark interacts with.
In vitro research suggests that yohimbine, a constituent of fever bark, inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity. The effects of fever bark itself are unclear.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea with methamphetamine (Desoxyn). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear this stimulant out of your system. Fever bark contains a yohimbine-like compound that may slow that enzyme down. If clearance slows, more methamphetamine could linger, which in theory could heighten its effects, things like a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, and feeling on edge. On its own, fever bark's alkaloids can also raise blood pressure and heart rate, so the two together could push in the same direction.
That said, this is theoretical, based only on lab studies, not on people taking these together. Still, I'd play it safe and run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

STIMULANT DRUGS
2 of 2Methamphetamine also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.
Reserpine, a constituent of fever bark, might increase or decrease effects of sympathomimetics. Also, yohimbine, another constituent of fever bark, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. It is not known if this would occur with fever bark.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the situation with prescription methamphetamine (Desoxyn) and fever bark. Methamphetamine is already a powerful stimulant that revs up your nervous system, raising heart rate and blood pressure. Fever bark is tricky because it contains two competing alkaloids: a reserpine-like compound that tends to calm the nervous system, and a yohimbine-like compound that can push blood pressure up. Because of this push-pull, no one can reliably predict whether your medication would feel stronger, weaker, or just unpredictable.
The yohimbine side worries me most, since stacking it on a stimulant could mean a racing heart, jitteriness, or a spike in blood pressure. Honestly, the evidence here is thin and anecdotal, but fever bark itself can be risky. Please run this by your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Fever Bark
What is Fever Bark?
- Fever
- Diarrhea
- Malaria (traditional)
- Digestive complaints
- Bitter tonic
Fever bark is the bark of the Australian tree Alstonia constricta, used in traditional medicine for fever, diarrhea, and infections. There is very little reliable human research to support these uses, and the bark contains potent alkaloids that may cause serious side effects. It is best avoided unless used under direct medical supervision.
About Methamphetamine
What Is Methamphetamine Used For?
Brand name: Desoxyn
Methamphetamine hydrochloride tablets are used as part of a total treatment program for attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity (ADHD) in children over 6 years of age.
The program usually includes other support too, such as psychological, educational and social measures. The tablets are meant for moderate to severe distractibility, short attention span, hyperactivity, emotional lability (rapid mood swings) and impulsivity.
