Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Goji interacts with.

Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP2D6 and reduce metabolism of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that goji berry juice inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP2D6 substrates. However, this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the simple version. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear aripiprazole (the active drug inside Aristada injections). In lab studies, goji berry juice slowed that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, aripiprazole could build up a bit and linger longer, which might mean stronger or more frequent side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, lightheadedness, tremor, or weight changes.

The reassuring part: this is only a test-tube finding and hasn't been seen in actual people. Eating goji berries as food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated goji supplements or large amounts of juice are the bigger question mark. Since your injection is dosed carefully, just give your pharmacist or doctor a quick heads-up before adding a goji supplement.

Here's the short version on combining goji with your Aristada injection. Your body partly clears aripiprazole using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, goji juice appears to slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let more of the medication build up in your system, which might mean stronger effects like daytime drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or muscle stiffness.

The important thing: this has only been seen in lab dishes, never confirmed in actual people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Eating goji berries as food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated goji supplements or large amounts of juice are the bigger question mark. Before starting any goji supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or prescriber first.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
