Disopyramide Phosphate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Goji interacts with.

Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP3A4 and reduce metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that goji berry juice inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP3A4 substrates. However, this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the simple version. Your body clears disopyramide partly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Goji berry, at least in lab studies, may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, your disopyramide could clear more slowly and build up to higher levels in your blood. Since disopyramide isn't a prodrug, more drug means stronger effects, not weaker ones.

Disopyramide is a heart rhythm medicine where the right amount really matters, so higher levels could mean things like dry mouth, blurred vision, trouble urinating, low blood pressure, or rhythm changes. That said, this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, and it hasn't been seen in people. Eating a few goji berries is unlikely to matter; concentrated goji supplements are the bigger question. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your disopyramide on your own.

What Is Disopyramide Used For?

Brand names: Norpace CR, Norpace

Disopyramide — available as Disopyramide Phosphate, Norpace, and Norpace CR — is indicated for the treatment of documented ventricular arrhythmias, such as sustained ventricular tachycardia (a fast, dangerous heart rhythm originating in the lower chambers), that a physician judges to be life-threatening.

Because of its potential to worsen heart rhythm problems, it is generally not recommended for lesser arrhythmias, and it should not be used to treat ventricular premature contractions (extra heartbeats) that cause no symptoms. Treatment is typically started in a hospital setting.
