Goji + Metformin, Rosiglitazone
Metformin, Rosiglitazone brand name: Avandamet.
Metformin, Rosiglitazone falls into 2 drug categories that Goji can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP2C9 and reduce metabolism of CYP2C9 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Goji interacts with whole categories of medication. Metformin, Rosiglitazone falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Goji in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Metformin, Rosiglitazone
Metformin, Rosiglitazone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Goji interacts with.
In vitro research shows that goji berry tincture and juice inhibit CYP2C9 enzymes. Additionally, multiple case reports suggest that goji berry concentrated tea and juice inhibit the metabolism of warfarin, a CYP2C9 substrate. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP2C9 substrates.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the piece that matters for your Avandamet: the rosiglitazone half is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Goji berry might gently slow that enzyme down, so in theory the rosiglitazone could clear a little slower and build up. If that happened, you could notice more of its usual effects, like fluid retention, swelling in the legs, a bit of weight gain, or lower blood sugar than expected. The metformin part isn't broken down this way, so it's really the rosiglitazone we're thinking about.
Honestly, this is mostly theory plus a few warfarin reports, not solid proof, and a few goji berries as food are unlikely to matter. Concentrated goji juice or tea is the bigger question. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding goji supplements, and don't change your medication on your own.

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
2 of 2Metformin, Rosiglitazone also falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS.
Animal and in vitro research show that goji root bark and fruit polysaccharides might have hypoglycemic effects. However, clinical research has only shown that taking goji fruit polysaccharides with or without antidiabetes drugs modestly reduces postprandial glucose when compared with control, with no reports of hypoglycemia.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: your Avandamet (a combo of metformin and rosiglitazone) is already working to bring your blood sugar down. Goji, especially concentrated goji fruit polysaccharides, may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own. Put the two together and the effects could stack a little, nudging your glucose lower than the medicine alone would.
The good news is this is a minor interaction, and the human studies only showed a modest dip in after-meal sugar with no actual reports of hypoglycemia. Eating goji berries as food is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you take strong goji supplements daily, just keep an eye out for low-sugar signs (shakiness, sweating, dizziness) and let your pharmacist or doctor know before starting them.

“Avandamet pairs metformin with rosiglitazone to manage type 2 diabetes, and its supplement list calls for genuine care rather than a quick skim. Start with the four major-rated entries: alcohol and the herb Siberian cocklebur can each stress the liver, a serious concern with rosiglitazone on board, while activated charcoal can soak up…”
