Goji + Sildenafil
Sildenafil brand name: Revatio.
Sildenafil falls into 2 drug categories that Goji can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP2C9 and reduce metabolism of CYP2C9 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Goji interacts with whole categories of medication. Sildenafil falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Goji in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Sildenafil
Sildenafil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Goji interacts with.
In vitro research shows that goji berry tincture and juice inhibit CYP2C9 enzymes. Additionally, multiple case reports suggest that goji berry concentrated tea and juice inhibit the metabolism of warfarin, a CYP2C9 substrate. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP2C9 substrates.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the idea behind this one: goji berry may slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the enzymes that helps clear sildenafil from your body. If that pathway gets blocked, sildenafil can hang around a bit longer and reach higher levels than usual. That could mean stronger side effects, like headache, flushing, a stuffy nose, dizziness, or a bigger drop in blood pressure.
I want to be honest about how shaky this evidence is. It comes mainly from lab studies and a few case reports with warfarin, not from real-world testing with sildenafil. Eating goji berries as a snack is unlikely to matter. Concentrated goji teas, juices, or supplement doses are the bigger question. If you use those regularly, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Sildenafil also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that goji berry juice inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP3A4 substrates. However, this has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down sildenafil and clear it out. Lab studies suggest goji berry might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happens, sildenafil could hang around longer and build up, which may mean stronger effects and a higher chance of its usual side effects, like headache, facial flushing, a stuffy nose, dizziness, or a drop in blood pressure.
Now the reassuring part: this is only seen in test-tube research, not in real people, so it's theoretical. A handful of goji berries as food is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated goji supplements or large amounts of juice are the bigger question mark. If you take sildenafil regularly, just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a goji supplement.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Sildenafil page
“Sildenafil relaxes blood vessels, whether prescribed as Revatio for pulmonary hypertension or as Viagra, and that blood-pressure-lowering action makes this list one to treat with genuine care. Of the 160 supplement and herbal ingredients on file, five carry a major rating, and those deserve understanding first.”

About Goji
What is Goji?
- General antioxidant support
- Eye health
- Immune support
- Anti-aging and well-being
- Blood sugar support
Goji berries are a nutritious fruit rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and plant polysaccharides, and they are safe for most people as a food. While they are popular for eye health, immune support, and general wellness, strong human evidence for most health claims is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated goji supplements, especially if you take medications or are pregnant.
About Sildenafil
What Is Sildenafil Used For?
Brand name: Revatio
Sildenafil treats two distinct conditions depending on the product. Viagra (tablet) and Vybrique (dissolving oral film) are approved for erectile dysfunction (ED) — difficulty getting or keeping an erection. Generic sildenafil tablets and oral film are also approved for ED.
Revatio and several generic sildenafil products (tablets, oral suspension, and injection) are used for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs — in adults to improve exercise ability and slow the disease from getting worse. Revatio oral suspension and injection are also approved for PAH in children ages 1 to 17.
