Esomeprazole, Naproxen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Ipriflavone interacts with.

Ipriflavone is thought to competitively inhibit cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2). Theoretically, concurrent use of ipriflavone and drugs metabolized by these enzymes might result in decreased drug elimination, increased serum levels, and potential toxicity. Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include clozapine (Clozaril), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), fluvoxamine (Luvox), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), mexiletine (Mexitil), olanzapine (Zyprexa), Pentazocine (Talwin), propranolol (Inderal), tacrine (Cognex), theophylline (Slo-bid, Theo-Dur, others), zileuton (Zyflo), Zolmitriptan (Zomig), and others.

Vimovo combines esomeprazole (a stomach acid reducer) with naproxen (an anti-inflammatory pain reliever). The concern on file is that ipriflavone may block an enzyme called CYP1A2, which could slow how your body clears these medicines. In theory, that might let the levels build up a bit, leading to stronger effects or more side effects, like stomach upset, heartburn, ulcers, fluid retention, or kidney strain from the naproxen side.

Here's the honest part: this is based only on lab and animal data, not real-world cases, so it's theoretical and likely minor for most people. Still, since both drugs already carry GI and kidney risks, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, concurrent use of ipriflavone and drugs metabolized by these enzymes might result in decreased drug elimination, increased serum levels, and potential toxicity. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 include amitriptyline (Elavil), diazepam (Valium), estradiol (Estrace), tacrine (Cognex), verapamil (Calan), warfarin (Coumadin), zileuton (Zyflo), and others.

Vimovo combines two medicines: naproxen (an anti-inflammatory pain reliever) and esomeprazole (an acid reducer added to protect your stomach). The naproxen part is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Lab studies suggest ipriflavone may slow that enzyme down, which could let naproxen build up a bit higher than usual.

If that happened, you might notice more of naproxen's typical side effects, like stomach upset, heartburn, fluid retention, or higher blood pressure, and with stronger NSAID exposure, a greater chance of stomach irritation. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based only on lab work, not real people, so it may not amount to much. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
