Esomeprazole, Naproxen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, danshen may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Danshen has been reported to have antithrombotic effects. Animal research also suggests that taking a danshen combination formula with clopidogrel exhibits a synergistic increase in antiplatelet aggregation and prolongation of coagulation time when compared with either taken alone.

Vimovo combines two medicines: naproxen, an anti-inflammatory pain reliever, and esomeprazole, a stomach acid reducer added to protect your gut. The piece that matters here is naproxen. Like other NSAIDs, naproxen already makes platelets a little less sticky and can irritate the stomach lining, which raises bleeding risk on its own.

Danshen has been reported to thin the blood and slow clotting too, so pairing it with naproxen could stack those effects. Watch for warning signs like easy bruising, nosebleeds, dark or bloody stools, or stomach pain that won't quit. To be fair, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on anecdotes and animal data, not solid human studies. Still, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, danshen may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that danshen tincture and various constituents of danshen inhibit the activity of CYP1A2. However, this activity has not been shown in humans when theophylline, a CYP1A2 substrate, was used as a target drug.

Vimovo combines two medicines: esomeprazole (a stomach acid blocker) and naproxen (an anti-inflammatory pain reliever). The concern on file is that Danshen might slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which helps clear certain drugs. In theory, that could let levels of these medicines drift a bit higher, leading to more naproxen-type side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, or, with the blood-thinning side of Danshen, a greater chance of bruising or bleeding.

Here's the reassuring part: this comes only from lab studies, and when researchers tested it in real people using another CYP1A2 drug, no meaningful effect showed up. So this is mostly theoretical. Still, because Danshen itself can affect clotting, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Vimovo is a combo pill: naproxen (an anti-inflammatory pain reliever) plus esomeprazole (a stomach acid blocker that helps protect against ulcers). The naproxen part is cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, and lab studies suggest Danshen may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in the body, naproxen could build up a bit, which might mean more of its usual side effects, like stomach upset, heartburn, fluid retention, higher blood pressure, or a greater risk of stomach bleeding.

The important part: this is only seen in test-tube and animal studies so far, and it has not been reported in real people. So I wouldn't panic. Still, since both Danshen and naproxen can affect bleeding, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Danshen might alter the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Preliminary clinical research in healthy males shows that the administration of danshen for 10-14 days induces intestinal CYP3A4 and increases the clearance of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate. The maximum concentration of midazolam was decreased by 31% to 67%, and drug levels were decreased by 27% to 80%. However, a single dose of danshen has the opposite effect, increasing maximum concentrations of midazolam by 87%.

Vimovo combines two medicines: esomeprazole (a stomach acid blocker) and naproxen (an anti-inflammatory pain reliever). The concern here is that Danshen can change how the liver and gut enzyme CYP3A4 handles certain drugs. When taken steadily for a week or two, Danshen seems to speed that enzyme up, which could lower esomeprazole levels and mean less acid protection for your stomach. A single dose may briefly do the opposite and raise levels. Naproxen is cleared mostly by different enzymes, so it is affected less.

This comes from small early studies, not strong proof, so the real-world impact is uncertain. There is also a separate, more practical worry: both Danshen and naproxen can thin the blood and raise bleeding risk. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
