Fosamprenavir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the honest first thing I have to say about jequirity: please don't use it. The seeds contain abrin, a protein toxin in the same family as ricin, and there's no safe, proven supplement form of it. That concern dwarfs anything to do with your HIV medication.

On the interaction itself, it's pretty minor. Fosamprenavir is a prodrug that your body converts into amprenavir, which is then broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab-dish studies hint that jequirity may slow that enzyme, which could in theory let amprenavir build up a bit (think more nausea, diarrhea, or rash). But this is only test-tube data (theoretical), so it's unproven in people. Bottom line: skip jequirity entirely, and run any supplement past your pharmacist or doctor.

Jequirity (Abrus precatorius) is a tropical plant whose bright red, black-tipped seeds contain abrin, one of the most toxic plant proteins known. Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.

About Fosamprenavir

What Is Fosamprenavir Used For?

Brand names: Lexiva, Telzir

Fosamprenavir tablets (sold as Fosamprenavir Calcium and Lexiva) are used together with other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and in children as young as 4 weeks old. It is not used alone — it is always part of a combination regimen.

For adults who have already taken protease inhibitor medicines before, fosamprenavir is used alongside a low dose of ritonavir. Once-daily dosing with ritonavir is not recommended for adults who have previously used protease inhibitors, or for any pediatric patients.
