Romidepsin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

First, the most important thing: jequirity seeds are genuinely poisonous (they contain abrin, a toxin in the same family as ricin), so this is not something you should ever take, with or without your chemo. Please don't use it at all.

As for the lab note on file: Romidepsin (Istodax) is broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and test-tube research suggests jequirity may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in a real person, Romidepsin could clear more slowly and build up, which might worsen its side effects like nausea, fatigue, low blood counts, or heart rhythm changes. But this is only theoretical from lab data, rated minor and unlikely. Still, always run any supplement past your oncology team first.

Jequirity (Abrus precatorius) is a tropical plant whose bright red, black-tipped seeds contain abrin, one of the most toxic plant proteins known. Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.

What Is Romidepsin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Istodax

Romidepsin injection is approved to treat cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) — a cancer that starts in white blood cells and primarily affects the skin — in adult patients who have already received at least one prior systemic (whole-body) therapy.

It is given intravenously (through a vein) in a clinical or infusion-center setting. It is not approved or recommended for peripheral T-cell lymphoma.
