In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

First things first: I want to be honest that I'd never recommend jequirity as a supplement at all. Its seeds contain abrin, a poison very close to ricin, so this is really a plant to avoid rather than something to pair with any medication.

That said, here's the interaction itself. In a lab dish, jequirity extract appears to slow down an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways your body uses to help clear dexlansoprazole. In theory, slowing that enzyme could let a bit more drug linger, which might mean slightly more side effects like headache, nausea, or diarrhea. But this is only test-tube data, the effect is rated minor and unlikely, and dexlansoprazole leans more on a different enzyme anyway. The bigger concern by far is jequirity's toxicity. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything.

Jequirity (Abrus precatorius) is a tropical plant whose bright red, black-tipped seeds contain abrin, one of the most toxic plant proteins known. Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.

What Is Dexlansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Dexilant Solutab

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules — sold as Dexilant and available as a generic — are used in patients 12 years of age and older to heal erosive esophagitis (EE), which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. They are also used to keep that damage healed and relieve heartburn over time.

In addition, dexlansoprazole treats heartburn from non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — that is, acid reflux that causes symptoms without visible damage to the esophagus. Both Dexilant and generic dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules share these same approved uses.
