Hydrochlorothiazide, Valsartan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Limonene interacts with.

There's preliminary evidence that limonene might be a substrate for cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9), as well causing its induction. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 in patients taking limonene. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as diclofenac (Cataflam, Voltaren), ibuprofen (Motrin), meloxicam (Mobic), and piroxicam (Feldene); celecoxib (Celebrex); amitriptyline (Elavil); warfarin (Coumadin); glipizide (Glucotrol); losartan (Cozaar); and others.

Here's the short version for your Diovan HCT (valsartan with hydrochlorothiazide). The concern on file is about limonene possibly speeding up an enzyme called CYP2C9. The thing is, valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide aren't really cleared by CYP2C9 in any meaningful way, so this particular pathway isn't a big player for your blood pressure pill.

On top of that, the evidence is very thin. It comes from lab and animal work, not from people, and limonene in everyday citrus or food amounts is unlikely to do anything here. In theory, if it nudged the enzyme up, related medicines could be cleared a bit faster, but that's not a strong fit for your combo. If you're using concentrated limonene supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor to be safe.
