Magnesium + Ibrutinib
Ibrutinib brand name: Imbruvica.
Magnesium has a minor interaction with Ibrutinib. Theoretically, magnesium may have antiplatelet effects, but the evidence is conflicting.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Ibrutinib
Ibrutinib falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Magnesium interacts with.
In vitro evidence shows that magnesium sulfate inhibits platelet aggregation, even at low concentrations. Some preliminary clinical evidence shows that infusion of magnesium sulfate increases bleeding time by 48% and reduces platelet activity. However, other clinical research shows that magnesium does not affect platelet aggregation, although inhibition of platelet-dependent thrombosis can occur.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the thing to keep in mind with Imbruvica (ibrutinib): this medicine already carries its own risk of bleeding and bruising, since it affects how your platelets stick together. The concern with magnesium is that, in lab studies and a little bit of human research, magnesium may also slow platelets down a touch. So in theory, stacking the two could nudge your bleeding risk slightly higher.
I want to be honest, though, the evidence here is shaky and conflicting. Some studies show an effect, others show none at all, and the overall interaction is rated as minor and unlikely. Everyday magnesium from food or a standard supplement is very unlikely to cause a problem. Still, because ibrutinib itself can bruise and bleed, just watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums, and check with your pharmacist or oncologist before starting magnesium.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ibrutinib page
“Ibrutinib (Imbruvica) treats blood cancers such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and because the drug itself makes bruising and bleeding more likely, adding the wrong supplement here can carry real consequences. Most of the entries below have blood-thinning or antiplatelet activity that stacks on top of that built-in bleeding risk.”

About Magnesium
What is Magnesium?
- Preventing or treating magnesium deficiency
- Constipation
- Muscle cramps
- Sleep support
- Anxiety and stress
- Migraine prevention
Magnesium is an essential mineral your body needs for muscles, nerves, blood pressure, and many other functions, and supplements are useful for preventing or correcting deficiency. Some other uses, like easing constipation or preventing migraines, have reasonable support, while uses for sleep and anxiety are less proven. It is generally safe for most healthy people at recommended amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you have kidney problems.
