Here's the thing to know about pairing masterwort with rasagiline (Azilect). This isn't about how your liver breaks down the medication or how strong it acts in your body. Instead, it's about your skin and the sun. Rasagiline is listed as a drug that can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and masterwort contains plant compounds called furanocoumarins that do the very same thing.

Stack the two together and you may sunburn faster or react more easily to bright sun, even on a day that wouldn't normally bother you. To be clear, this concern is theoretical, based on how these substances behave rather than strong patient studies. Still, it's easy to play it safe with sunscreen and covering up. Chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting masterwort.

What Is Rasagiline Used For?

Brand name: Azilect

Rasagiline tablets — sold as Azilect, Rasagiline, and Rasagiline mesylate — are approved to treat Parkinson's disease. They can be used on their own (monotherapy) or alongside other Parkinson's medications, including levodopa.

When used with levodopa, rasagiline helps smooth out the motor fluctuations that can occur as Parkinson's disease progresses. Your prescriber will determine whether it's right for you as a standalone treatment or as an add-on.
