IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Azamune
Azamune falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Melatonin interacts with.
Melatonin can stimulate immune function. Theoretically, melatonin might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Azamune is azathioprine, a medicine that quiets down your immune system. People take it after a transplant or for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or inflammatory bowel disease, where the goal is to keep an overactive immune system in check.
Here is the concern with melatonin: it can gently nudge the immune system to be more active, which is the opposite of what azathioprine is trying to do. In theory, that could work against your treatment and make your condition harder to control. I want to be honest though, this is mostly a theoretical worry based on limited evidence, not something proven to cause problems in real patients. Because azathioprine is a serious drug where staying in control really matters, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding melatonin rather than starting it on your own.

About Melatonin
What is Melatonin?
- Trouble falling asleep (insomnia)
- Jet lag
- Delayed sleep phase syndrome
- Non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder
- Shift-work sleep problems
- Sleep problems in some children with conditions like autism or ADHD
Melatonin is a hormone your body makes naturally to help control your sleep-wake cycle, and the supplement form is widely used to help with sleep timing problems and jet lag. The evidence is strongest for certain circadian (body-clock) disorders and is more mixed for everyday insomnia. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially for children or during pregnancy.

Azamune Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Azamune as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Melatonin — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
